AM I SUPPOSED TO JUST SIT AROUND AND DO NOTHING?

No, though the initial process may feel that way at first.  Meditation is a mindfulness practice in surrendering to a flow state, and there are a wide variety of meditative and self-reflective processes.  Many people tap into this state without realizing it: when they are doing something they love and find themselves immersed in it with intent focus or effortless action, when sitting back and observing the world around them, or remaining centered with legitimate poise in high-pressure or chaotic situations.  The practice of meditation is about training the physical mind's ability to let go of thought patterns, and take greater command of focusing its attention in the desired direction.
